Eric Hogensen

Eric brings a wide range of political campaign experience to the company, having worked at all levels of the political world, from presidential races, to statewide campaigns, to school board races.

Recognized as a “Rising Star” by Campaigns and Elections magazine in 2012, Eric has helped create and implement innovative, winning strategies for candidates, state Democratic parties, labor, and non-profit organizations.

Since its founding in 2007, Eric and his company, HSG Campaigns, have had a transformative impact on the political landscape. Based in downtown Los Angeles, the company's specialty is taking first-time and underdog candidates to victory, including Milwaukee Alderman Nik Kovac, Cook County’s first female and Hispanic State’s Attorney, Anita Alvarez, and Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino, all of whom upset their opponents in crowded primaries.

Eric also specializes in helping labor, environmental, and other progressive organizations elect strong candidates to office, producing mail for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters, and countless other progressive groups. In 2011, HSG Campaigns played a key role in the Wisconsin recall elections, producing mail that aided in the upset victories of three Democratic candidates.

In 2006, Eric steered first-time candidate Dr. Steve Kagen to an upset victory in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. Eric helped Dr. Kagen defeat two better-known candidates in the primary and then counter a multi-million dollar campaign run by the national Republican Party to prevail in the 2006 November election.

From 2001 to 2004, Hogensen helped Democrats pull through the painful trials of the Bush years. From Massachusetts and South Carolina to Kentucky and Nevada, Eric built Democratic field operations and infrastructure to turn red states blue, county by county.

With a B.A. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Eric has the skills and experience to elect progressive candidates to every level of office.

Laura Craft Hogensen

Production Director

Laura currently serves as Production Director for HSG Campaigns.

Starting as a high school freshman with an internship at the South Carolina Democratic Party, Laura's dual passions for politics and literature have helped to shape her career.

Laura and Eric met on Wesley Clark's South Carolina Presidential Primary campaign in 2003 - the first of many campaigns they would work on together from South Carolina to Wisconsin, and now California. She and Eric founded HSG Campaigns in 2007, after helping to elect Dr. Steve Kagen to Congress in 2006.

Laura majored in English at the University of South Carolina and went on to graduate summa cum laude from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, earning a BA in Literature and Critical Theory with a focus on Nineteenth Century British Literature. Though she is a voracious reader of modern fiction, Charles Dickens is her favorite author - a title he holds in perpetuity.

Jeremy Payne

Campaign Projects Associate

Jeremy joined the firm in 2012. He serves as a Campaign Projects Associate, working in the areas of fundraising, call time management, research and analysis, volunteer coordination, business marketing, and other campaign-related tasks.

Prior to his employment with HSG, Jeremy interned for former Los Angeles City Councilmember Tony Cardenas, now Congressman of California's 29th District. While working closely with constituents, Jeremy saw first-hand how a community could prosper and grow with the involvement of driven and exemplary political leaders. It’s this insight that informs much of what Jeremy does now at HSG Campaigns – helping to identify and assist candidates who show true potential in maintaining and improving the well-being of their communities.

In addition to his work with HSG Campaigns, Jeremy is also pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at UCLA.
